I urge you, if you haven't already, to check out the new English language version of the Japanese animated feature KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE in which Phil provides the voice of the cat, Jiji. Most of Phil's characters were sarcastic, insincere bastards. (and I loved them all), and Jiji although often sarcastic is always sincere. It made me happy that Phil got to do something so endearing before he left us. |

I don't think he ever won an acting Emmy, though, or was even nominated as an actor. I read one report he won an acting Emmy for SNL, but I think that report was mistaken. By the way, I wrote to Matt Groening and the Simpsons producers and writers, with my idea on how to honor Hartman's memory on a special Simpsons episode. I wrote them in care of Fox Broadcasting and in care of Bongo Entertainment, who publishes the Simpsons comics. |

One thing - though obviously this isn't the time for it, I respectfully disagree that there shouldn't someday be a replacement for Phil's voice on the Simpsons. Jim Henson and Mel Blanc both trained their kids to do their voices so that their characters would live on after them and I don't think Phil would be offended. After all, it's BECAUSE he did such a wonderful job of bringing Troy to life that Fox might not want to just drop him - but like I said, it is way too early to be thinking about that. Then it was the only thought in my mind the rest of the drive. I mourned Jimmy Stewart and Lloyd Bridges, but they were old and their deaths did not come as quite the shock that Phil's did. He was plucked from this world when he had many good years ahead of him. I pray that his children are well taken care of. The scene of Troy McClure speaking at Krusty the Klown's "funeral" seems very haunting to me now. |
